In modern large buildings, the central air conditioning system is undoubtedly the "climate center" that maintains a comfortable indoor environment. However, when the winter cold wave strikes, this central system itself faces a severe test. The makeup water pipes of outdoor cooling towers, the condensate water pipes of air conditioning units, and the chilled water pipes laid in non heating areas are prone to freezing and expansion in extremely cold temperatures below zero, leading to pipeline rupture and system paralysis.

Electric heat tracing is the core technology to solve this winter's major problem, and its standardized installation and significant application effects have been verified in numerous engineering practices.
Thermal insulation installation: anti freezing solution from the inside out
The installation of central air conditioning electric tracing system is a systematic project from heat loss calculation to system integration. The designers first calculate the heat dissipation per unit length of the pipeline based on parameters such as the difference between the pipeline maintenance temperature and the minimum ambient temperature, as well as the thickness of the insulation layer, in order to select the appropriate power of the heat tracing strip. During the laying process, the heating cable needs to be tightly attached to the surface of the pipeline, usually arranged at a position about 45 degrees below the horizontal axis of the pipeline cross-section to balance heat transfer efficiency and mechanical protection. For large heat dissipation devices such as valves and flanges, local power compensation must be carried out, such as dense winding or laying "U-shaped" circuits.
The self limiting temperature electric heating belt has significant advantages in such applications. It allows for arbitrary cutting on site, adapts to complex and varied pipeline layouts, and due to its PTC characteristics, even if it overlaps, it will not overheat locally. After laying, fix it with aluminum foil tape to expand the heat dissipation surface, and finally cover it with closed cell rubber insulation cotton that meets the design requirements and has tight joints. The entire system also needs to be equipped with temperature controllers and sensors to maintain a constant pipeline temperature within the set range.
Outdoor equipment: a close fitting defense line for core components
The outdoor unit and cooling tower of central air conditioning are key areas for anti freezing. For cooling towers that are shut down in winter, their water collection trays, makeup pipes, valves, and connecting pipelines are completely exposed to the natural environment. The electric heating strip needs to be attached to the bottom of the water collection tray, wrapped around the surface of the water replenishment pipeline, and monitored in real-time with temperature sensors. When the temperature drops to the set threshold (usually 4 ℃), automatic heat tracing is activated to maintain microcirculation of the water body or directly heat for antifreeze, effectively avoiding equipment freezing and cracking.
In large-scale engineering projects such as Suzhou Ginza Plaza, by installing electric heat tracing devices on the central air conditioning cooling tower pipes, valves, etc., automatic electric heating is achieved at low temperatures, effectively preventing the medium from freezing and ensuring the reliable operation of the system in harsh winter.
Application effect: Dual benefits of reliability and energy saving
After installing an electric heat tracing system, the most intuitive effect is to completely solve the problem of freezing and blockage of air conditioning water pipes in winter, ensuring that the air conditioning terminal equipment can operate normally in any weather conditions. For places such as hotels, shopping malls, and office buildings, this means that even during cold waves, they can provide continuous and reliable heating support for customers and employees.
The application of electric heat tracing system has also successfully curbed the phenomena of steam system leakage and heat loss. In the energy-saving and emission reduction renovation project of a certain hospital, the energy-saving team carried out electric heat tracing renovation on the air conditioning heat exchange station and equipment, and established a time-sharing zone control system to achieve automatic adjustment and on-demand heating. While ensuring normal life and office in winter, the heating season reached more than 20%.
Whether it's ensuring a spring like atmosphere in high-end hotels or maintaining constant warmth in hospital wards, electric heat tracing systems have quietly become an indispensable key component of central air conditioning systems. It uses precise heat to protect the "climate center" of the building and ensure smooth operation in the cold winter, creating a sense of security and comfort for people who are not afraid of wind and snow.
